On January 20, 2017, 63 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who embarked on a solidarity rally support of Donald Trump’s Inauguration as President of the United States in Rivers state were arrested, and one member shot dead by security forces in the state. The Police in Rivers state denied the killing and claimed that the said members of IPOB were on an illegal protest to actualise a sinister agenda and the security operatives had to rise to the occasion.
