Manecas dos Santos, commander of African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), warned of a possible coup in an interview. Immediately after this interview was published, he was summoned by the Public Prosecutor’s Office for interrogation. After being questioned for hours he was released, only for him to be recalled a few days later for more questioning. The 74-year-old presented his medical certificate to prove an illness which had led him to be hospitalized, to explain why he could not attend, and in response an arrest warrant was issued.
