Incidents & Issues

A “coalition of opposition parties”, Together for Democracy and Sovereignty (EDS), had planned a demonstration against the then-upcoming Senate elections and the Independent Electoral Commission, accusing the latter of being biased towards the government. However, police officers chased demonstrators as they were going to the starting point, fired tear gas at them, and continued chasing them around the neighbourhood for three hours. Twelve or more people were arrested, including one who was being interviewed by journalists.
