Amoussou was reportedly abducted on August 12, 2024, in Lomé, Togo, by unidentified individuals before being transferred to Benin. He is now facing serious charges at the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET), including:

- Incitement to publish false news
- Direct provocation to rebellion

Human rights organizations, legal defenders, and opposition figures have condemned the arrest, calling it an unlawful abduction and an attempt to silence government critics.

“The widespread indignation provoked by this shameful kidnapping has surprised and upset only those whose interests are in opposition to those of our valiant people,” said Guy Mitokpè, spokesperson for the opposition.

His lawyer, Victorien Fadé, anticipated his detention, given the level of state involvement in the case. Meanwhile, rights organizations argue that the charges reflect a broader pattern of intimidation against critical voices.
