The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Adamu, alongside El Abbas Muhammed and Talib Mohammed, all youth leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State.
According to sources familiar with the development, the trio was accused by the secret service of planning to incite violence ahead of the March 11 elections.
Confirming the arrests, Abraham Alberah, spokesman for the PDP in Kaduna, alleged that the DSS was acting on the directives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government to suppress opposition voices. He further claimed that several members of the PDP campaign council had been marked for arrest.
“The APC is using security agencies to intimidate the opposition in the face of glaring defeat awaiting it in Saturday’s governorship election,” Alberah stated.
The arrests have raised concerns over the potential use of security forces for political intimidation as tensions heighten ahead of the polls.
