A journalist with GHOne TV, Kwabena Agyekum Banahene, was reportedly assaulted by a police officer while covering unrest in Ghana.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Banahene said that in the middle of the chaos, a police officer ordered him to leave the scene before slapping and pushing him. The assault left him with an injury to his mouth, GhanaWeb reported.
The incident adds to growing concerns about press freedom and the safety of journalists in the country, where reporters have increasingly faced threats, harassment, and physical attacks while carrying out their work.
Press freedom advocates have condemned the attack and urged Ghanaian authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and hold the officer accountable.
