Conakry, Guinea – Access to Inquisiteur.net, an independent investigative news website, was blocked within Guinea on September 1, 2023. Though briefly restored on September 5, the site was again censored within 30 minutes after publishing articles that questioned the military government's commitment to its promises. By September 7, access was only possible through a VPN.
Similarly, the news site Guinée Matin had been inaccessible for two weeks before Reporters Without Borders (RSF) created a mirror site on August 30, restoring access. RSF replicated this approach on September 12 to allow Inquisiteur.net readers to bypass the restriction.
The blocking of these sites highlights worsening press freedom conditions in Guinea, as independent journalists and media platforms continue to face censorship, intimidation, and arbitrary restrictions.
