Conakry, Guinea – The Guinean military summoned journalist Ibrahima Sory Diallo of Laguinée.info for a so-called "work session" in September 2021, a move that has raised serious concerns about press freedom in the country.
According to Sékou Jamal Pendessa, General Secretary of the Guinea Press Professionals Union (SPPG), the military failed to provide any reason for the summons despite repeated requests for clarification.
“We told them that this journalist would not go to a military camp,” Pendessa said. “If they had any complaints against him, they should refer the matter to the High Authority for Communication (HAC) or the courts.”
The incident reflects a growing pattern of intimidation and harassment against journalists in Guinea, with media watchdogs like Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calling on authorities to respect press freedom and ensure journalists can operate without fear of reprisals.
