Conakry, Guinea – Two journalists were targeted by security forces on August 4, 2021, while reporting on separate incidents, raising fresh concerns about press freedom in Guinea.
Mamadou Hady Diallo, a reporter for Djoma Kakande, was physically attacked by police while covering a demonstration by mining company employees in the northwest of the country. Meanwhile, Espace TV journalist Mamoudou Boulléré Diallo faced harassment from soldiers stationed on a major avenue in Conakry.
These incidents come amid a broader wave of press repression in Guinea, with media organizations and watchdogs condemning the growing hostility towards journalists. Press freedom advocates are calling for authorities to hold security forces accountable and ensure a safe working environment for the media.
