Conakry, Guinea – The High Authority for Communication (HAC), Guinea’s media regulator, summoned the staff of two prominent radio programs—"Mirador" (Outlook) on FIM FM and "On refait le monde" (Remaking the World) on Djoma FM—on May 17 and 18, 2023, respectively.
The HAC reprimanded both teams over the "tone adopted in their programmes" while commenting on opposition-led protests in the country. This move has raised concerns among media rights organizations about increasing censorship and pressure on independent journalists in Guinea.
The summons is part of a broader pattern of media intimidation, as journalists covering political developments and protests face threats, harassment, and state interference in their work. Press freedom advocates continue to call on authorities to uphold journalistic independence and protect media professionals from undue influence and restrictions.
