On January 22, 2022, during the first day of a two-day demonstration, Ibrahim Compaoré, a reporter with La Chaîne au Cœur de l’Afrique (LCA), was injured while covering the protests.
While filming the demonstrations, Compaoré was struck in the left arm by a tear gas projectile fired by security forces. The impact fractured his arm, but he was later able to receive medical treatment.
This incident highlights the dangers journalists face while reporting on civil unrest in Burkina Faso and raises serious concerns about press freedom and the safety of media workers amid growing tensions in the country.
