France24 journalist Wassim Nasr is the target of two legal proceedings, the Burkinabe and Malian justice systems announced on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in two different press releases.
The Specialized Judicial Unit for the Suppression of Acts of Terrorism in Burkina Faso and the Public Prosecutor of the Specialized Judicial Unit for the Fight against Terrorism and Organized Transnational Crime in Mali have " decided to open an investigation against Wassim Nasr ," the Prosecutors' Office said.
The two legal proceedings also target " all other perpetrators, co-perpetrators and accomplices of the heads of criminal association in connection with a terrorist enterprise, complicity in acts of terrorism and apology for terrorism, so that they answer for their actions before the courts ."
The Burkinabe and Malian justice systems are criticizing the France24 journalist for his " tendentious comments the day after each terrorist attack committed against the States of the Confederation of Sahel States ."
The Ouagadougou prosecutor's office pointed out that, for example, during the terrorist attack committed in Djibo on November 29, 2023, citing " his own sources ", Wassim Nasr explained the modus operandi used by the terrorists, while speculating on the number of victims and the material damage.
