The president of the Niamana livestock market, Boubou Cissé, was abducted on the evening of Wednesday, October 23, by men in civilian clothing. According to RFI, he is currently being held by State Security.
Cissé, a prominent and influential figure in the livestock trade, was taken in what appears to be a targeted operation amid an ongoing strike by traders in Bamako’s livestock markets. The strike, which began on Tuesday, was sparked by the government’s decision to close these markets and relocate them outside the capital.
Cissé was reportedly on his way to a meeting when he was ambushed by masked men. His son and driver, who were with him at the time, were allowed to leave, but he was taken away. His disappearance raised alarm among his family and colleagues, who received no updates on his whereabouts for two days.
A Malian security source, speaking anonymously, confirmed suspicions about State Security’s involvement. "Of course, it's State Security, and of course, it's linked to the strike," the source stated.
