Conakry, Guinea – Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has expressed deep concern over the growing threats against journalists in Guinea after military intelligence summoned journalist Mohamed Bangoura for questioning over a story implicating soldiers in the theft of a truck.
Bangoura, the editor of Mosaiqueguinee.com, was informed on August 5 that a group of soldiers had arrived at the news website’s offices, ordering him to report to military intelligence headquarters. The summons was linked to an article exposing the disappearance of a truck loaded with medical supplies from a military camp.
Refusing to disclose his source, Bangoura received support from the Guinea Press Professionals Union (SPPG). The matter was eventually mediated by the country’s media regulator, the High Authority for Communication (HAC).
RSF noted that this incident coincided with a wave of violent attacks on journalists by soldiers, police, and protesters, further escalating concerns about press freedom in the country. The organization has urged Guinean authorities to ensure better protection for journalists and uphold their right to report freely without intimidation.
