A Minna-based human rights journalist with Human Rights Radio, Crusaders Radio, and Prestige FM, Minna, Ahmed Isah Sapke, commonly known as Ahmed Lee, has been detained by the police in order of Mohammed Gimba, a protocol aide to Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago.
SaharaReporters gathered that Lee was first invited by the police on Friday, 13 February 2026, and granted bail the same day with instructions to return on Monday. On Monday, 16 February, he was detained.
He was later asked to leave and return on Thursday, only to be called back and told he was to meet with the Commissioner of Police. He is currently being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Minna.
The detention followed the publication of a press release issued by Niger South Youths, signed by Comrade Yahaya Ibrahim.
