Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Aminata "Mimi" Touré, another fierce opponent of the postponement, was arrested at one of the rallies, opposition MP Guy Marius Sagna said. A presidential candidate, Anta Babacar Ngom, was also reportedly arrested. Images posted on social media show her struggling with members of the security forces.
Another candidate, Daouda Ndiaye, posted a message on social media in which he claims to have been "brutalized" by the police, and reports that some of his collaborators were "arrested."
Several opposition candidates have announced to the press their decision to ignore the postponement of the presidential election and to maintain the launch of their campaign.
