Recent press freedom violations in Sierra Leone have heightened fears of renewed violence during the elections.
On June 14, BBC correspondent Umaru Fofana was harassed and threatened by supporters of the opposition All People's Congress (APC) while covering an APC event. According to reports, he narrowly escaped physical violence thanks to the intervention of several individuals, including another journalist.
This incident adds to growing concerns about the safety of journalists and the potential for political tensions to escalate as the country navigates its electoral process. Authorities have yet to respond to these threats against press freedom.
