Two months after the arrest of journalist and editor of your website Togoscoop, Albert Agbeko, it's the turn of Flore Monteau, a correspondent for TV5MONDE, to be arrested while covering a demonstration in Lomé. A worrying shift in security for press freedom in Togo.
An arrest in the midst of media coverage
On Friday, June 6, 2025, in Lomé, Flore Monteau, a French journalist and correspondent for the international channel TV5MONDE, was arrested by law enforcement while covering protests in the Agbalépédo neighborhood. She was filming scenes of police clearing barricades as part of her journalistic work.
Despite presenting her press card and official accreditation issued by the High Authority for Audiovisual and Communication (HAAC), the officers demanded the images be deleted. When she refused, her work equipment and phone were confiscated, with a formal ban on touching them. She was then taken to the Djidjolé police station, where she was ultimately forced to delete the images before her equipment was returned to her.
