Tension flared on Saturday during the planned formal declaration of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Labour Party’s former governorship candidate in Lagos, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as suspected loyalists of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly unleashed violence on ADC members.
Armed thugs, reportedly acting with the backing of security operatives, stormed a second venue secured for the event in Alimosho, dispersing Rhodes-Vivour’s supporters.
Earlier, security operatives and armed groups had blocked access to the original venue of the event, despite full payment having been made.
Rhodes-Vivour was said to have been informed by police officers that the directive came “from above” and was advised to take the matter up with the Commissioner of Police.
