The candlelight procession billed for 6 pm in Abuja did not hold. The procession was meant to honor those who lost their lives during the #EndSARS protest that erupted in many parts of the country last year.
The protesters had dispersed to reconvene in the evening for the procession but the event was shelved. One of the protesters told our correspondent that security operatives did not allow them to converge at Unity Fountain, the venue for the procession.
He said, “We were not allowed to converge again for the candlelight procession fixed for the evening. The security operatives told us not to continue with it. We tried looking for other venues all to no avail. That’s why we could not hold the procession. ”
Our correspondent who left the area around 9 pm saw a heavy presence of the operatives of the Department of State Services around the Ministry of Justice building, Maitama, and environs.
