A customs officer shot and killed a protester in the village of Sekoto, in the eastern province of Saraya, during a clash with a group of local residents following authorities’ seizure of unregulated gold mining equipment.

Actions Taken

The two customs officers involved in the case were taken into custody pending an investigation, which was still pending at year’s end.
