Journalist Murtala Inusah was assaulted by supporters of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako on October 16, 2024, while covering the bishop’s court appearance over a fatal accident allegedly caused by his underage son.
Inusah, a court correspondent for Accra-based Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network, sustained injuries and is currently recovering after receiving medical treatment. According to EIB’s Group Managing Editor, Joojo Cobbina, a formal complaint has been lodged with the Ministries Police, along with video evidence to help identify the attackers.
During the incident, the journalist was beaten and had his mobile phone taken while filming the proceedings. A police officer who attempted to intervene was also assaulted. The attack has raised serious concerns about press freedom and journalist safety in Ghana, with growing calls for swift action by law enforcement authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
