Sankulleh Janko, a reporter for Dakar-based West Africa Democracy Radio (WADR), was attacked by a group of violent protesters while covering a demonstration. The assailants, armed with sticks, manhandled him and forcibly seized his equipment, including his mobile phone.
The situation could have turned deadly if not for the intervention of one protester, who prevented further harm. Janko, recognized as one of The Gambia’s promising young journalists, was left shaken by the ordeal.
