    Journalist Suspended From Live Programs After Criticizing The President

    A broadcast journalist from the state-owned television station (ORTB) was suspended from doing live programs after he criticized a decision by the president to participate in a march in Paris against terrorism and called on the president to allow freedom of the press and political debates within the public media.

    Actions Taken

    Professional media associations, NGOs, and ethics groups denounced the measure as retaliatory. In response to trade union and NGO demonstrations, the ORTB director claimed the removal of the journalist was consistent with internal office regulations but then reinstated the television journalist
