Description

In 2015, Etim Ekpimah, PUNCH correspondent in Akwa Ibom was threatened severally via phone and text message from individuals who were uncomfortable with his story on political patronage in the state. The story, called “Akwa Ibom: State where commissioners, others, kneel for Akpabio’s wife,” narrated how government officials pay obeisance to the Governor’s wife during political functions and meetings. Etim Ekpimah’s decision to report the death threat to the Akwa Ibom Police Authorities proved futile as the Police Commissioner treated his case with contempt and disdain and accused him of being sponsored by opposition politicians.
