Police officers raided the office of Premium Times at Abuja, arresting the Publisher, Dapo Olorunyomi alongside the Judiciary correspondent, Evelyn Okakwu. The arrest was at the behest of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratia who filed a complaint alleging defamation of his character by the media house. The arrested journalists were later released following intense pressure from civil and human rights groups, online voices and concerned citizens.

The arrests and detention of the Premium Times journalists is in violation of Section 22 of the constitution which grants media authorities the right to hold government accountable and responsible and Section 39 which grants the freedom of expression and information.
