Latest Update April 9th, 2024 Togo: Six DMK Opponents of the New Constitution Released.
After five days behind bars, they were finally released. Six Togolese opponents imprisoned in Lomé since April 5 for "disturbing public order" were released on the evening of April 9, their relatives said the following day.
Nine members of the Dynamique Monseigneur Kpodzro (DMK, a group of opposition parties and civil society) were arrested while they were "raising awareness among people in the Akodessêwa market about the illegality of the constitutional revision," according to the DMK.
Three of those detained had already been released. "The [last] six DMK members were released [on April 9] evening and have returned home," confirmed Thomas Kokou N'soukpoe, DMK spokesperson.
Update- On 5th April 2024, three of the nine members arrested were released, while a judicial investigation was opened against the six others for ‘aggravated disturbance of public order’.
