Latest Update June 13, 2023 Guinean Activists Acquitted, but Prosecutor Appeals Decision
On June 13, 2023, the Dixinn Court of First Instance, temporarily relocated to the Conakry Court of Appeal, acquitted prominent Guinean activists Oumar Sylla (alias Foniké Menguè) and Ibrahima Diallo of all charges, citing unconstituted offenses.
Sylla, the coordinator of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC) and deputy coordinator of Tournons La Page (TLP) Guinea, along with Diallo, the coordinator of TLP-Guinea and head of operations for the FNDC, had been prosecuted for criminal participation in a gathering, complicity in the destruction of public and private buildings, and complicity in intentional assault and battery.
Despite their acquittal, the public prosecutor immediately appealed the decision, prolonging their legal battle. The case continues to draw domestic and international attention, as rights groups call for an end to judicial harassment of civil society activists in Guinea.
