SaharaReporters learnt that Abiodun, a native of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, was first detained on January 28, 2026, at the Kabba Divisional Police Headquarters under circumstances his family described as “deeply troubling and unjust.”
22-year-old student, Felix Ayomide Abiodun, popularly known as @Okunvoice, has been remanded in prison in Kogi State after he voluntarily presented himself to the police over a controversial Facebook post, raising fresh concerns about abuse of power and selective justice.
According to details obtained by SaharaReporters, the young student had shared a letter sent to him by an individual identified simply as Felix, accusing the Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Haruna Ibrahim, of failing to pay workers’ salaries.
The letter allegedly bore an ALGON letterhead and signature, which Abiodun reposted on his Facebook page without verifying its authenticity.
Days after the post went public, Abiodun’s younger brother was reportedly picked up by police from Kogi State University, Kabba — an incident that forced the student to take action.
“He was never arrested initially,” a source familiar with the case said. “He walked into the Kabba Police Station himself after hearing that his younger brother had been picked up. He wanted to clear his name.”
However, instead of being allowed to explain himself and leave, Abiodun was detained for four days. Although he was later granted bail, his mobile phone was seized as evidence.
Trouble escalated when the police informed him that the case would be transferred to Lokoja for further investigation, particularly to apprehend the original sender of the letter.
Upon reporting to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lokoja, Abiodun was detained again and subsequently remanded for 14 days.
Shockingly, after the initial remand period elapsed, he was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lokoja without prior notice and sent to Koton-Karfe Correctional Centre for another 14 days.
On Monday, the presiding judge reportedly declined to grant him bail, citing the transfer of the case to the Federal High Court by the police authorities.
Despite the prolonged detention, the individual identified as Felix — who allegedly authored and sent the controversial letter — has not been arrested.
Sources alleged that the suspect remains untouched due to his family’s close relationship with the Ijumu Local Government Chairman.
“This raises serious questions,” a family member said. “Why is the person who only shared the information in prison, while the original source is walking free?”
In a video circulating online, Abiodun’s family members were seen publicly apologising and pleading with authorities to grant him bail, describing his continued detention as unfair and excessive.
They also called on the Kogi State Police Command to arrest the original sender of the letter instead of “punishing only one side.”
