In reaction to the killing, local residents burned alive the individual who filed the complaint with police. The police officer who killed Boukari reportedly fled Bassila following the killing.
Following an executive order on the 5th of October, 2016, the activities of student organisations on all campuses of the four public universities in the country was banned after students’ agitations against new administrative measures at the Université d’Abomey-Calavi.
