NGO Regulatory Bill Is An Attempt To Shrink The Civic Space In Nigeria – Victoria Ohaeri

The NGO Regulatory Bill, proposed by Umar Buba Jibril, stated that the NGOs bill is primarily to set up a commission to regulate their activities and provide a platform for robust relationships between them and the government for the interests of Nigerians. A lot of Nigerians are of the perspective that; this bill will constrain civic space and destroy dissent.

Victoria Ohaeri of SpacesForChange, expresses her concerns at how much the bill will be a boon to official corruption and stifle accountability of government. She further explained that this bill, if passed into law, will create difficulty for individuals and groups with different opinions to speak out freely with legal protection from the government.
